North East Floods Emergency Appeal

North East Floods Emergency Appeal

100% of Amount donated by you will directly go into relief & rebuilding work for flood-torn districts of North-Eastern States

The flood situation in Assam continues to be grim with 26 districts getting badly affected. The death toll in the current wave of flood now stands at 60, with over 17 lac people hit by the deluge, out of which more than 6 lac are children.

There seems to be no respite from heavy rains and more trouble might follow in the next few days. Floods and landslides have caused drowning or injuries from collapsed homes and buildings with lakhs of people marooned. Nearly 50,000 people from 2,498 villages have left their homes and taken shelter in ill-maintained temporary relief camps where there is acute shortage of food, water and sanitation facilities. People have lost their homes and personal valuables, along with their agricultural produce and livestock on which they depended on for their livelihood and survival. As per Save the Children’s assessment, there are about 25000 households, with over 10000 children who have been severely affected. It's going to be mammoth task for them to bring back normalcy to their lives. And you can lend your helping hand in that process.

Save the Children’s teams are on the ground, reaching out to the most vulnerable and worst-hit children and their families. We are responding in three of the worst affected districts – Dhemaji, Majuli and Sonitpur. We’re providing shelter kits, hygiene kits, Child Friendly Spaces and livelihood support. The first distribution has already been done in Sonitpur and Dhemaji to over 64 households, further kits for 140 families have been dispatched from Guwahati to Tezpur.

We will also be setting up numerous Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) which will be manned by our facilitators. A CFS is a safe space which provides learning, recreation and psychological support to disaster-struck children. We ensure that affected children do not drift away from their education. We have deployed 500 kits from pre-stock in Delhi via airlift support from Indigo and Vistara. Indigo has airlifted 7.7 tonnes of relief material so far. This process of airlifting material is done on everyday basis.

We are gearing up to reach more affected villages with life-saving aid and we urgently need your support to do this. The situation in critical and children of Assam desperately await help. Please come forward and donate. Your support can save lives.
