BEYOND CASH: MAKING SOCIAL PROTECTION DELIVER MORE FOR CHILDREN IN SOUTH RAJASTHAN

Orphaned children who have known nothing but poverty are often burdened with unfair choices that lead to education taking a backseat. Child labour, dropout rates and irregularity of children in schools are all intrinsically linked. Through this project we aim at helping children who have never had the chance to study or are being forced to dropout due to a dire situation by helping them refocus their energies on the path of education through enrolment drives, household visits and setting up community-based norms against child labour. Conducted in Dungarpur and Udaipur in Rajasthan, we worked with the Local Panchayat, Community groups and Government officials to facilitate this change. We are proud to say, we achieved a 33.3% increase in children and individuals accessing social protection schemes and a total of 798 children being removed from work and brought back to school.
