Heatwave, Encephalitis and Hypoglycaemia Pose a Severe Threat for Children in Bihar

June 20, New Delhi: The heatwave continues to create havoc in several parts of the country, with the worst-hit districts being Gaya, Nawada and Aurangabad in Bihar. Section 144 has been imposed in Gaya after the heatwave led to several deaths and many others hospitalised. In its statement, the Gaya administration banned construction and other outdoor activities that involve intense manual labour between 11 am and 4 pm. Any work related to MNREGA (a government-led programme aimed at enhancing livelihood security by guaranteeing 100 days of wage employment in rural areas) will not be done after 10:30 am.

Save the Children Welcomes the Newly Drafted National Education Policy 2019

The National Policy on Education was framed in 1986 and modified in 1992. Since then, several changes have taken place in the country’s demography and social fabric that calls for a revision of the existing policy. The Government of India intends to bring out a revised and improvised version of National Education Policy to addressthe changing dynamics of the population’s requirement concerning quality education, innovation and research. This year, for the first time, the Government has initiateda grassroot-level consultative process, which has enabled the Ministry of Human Resources Development to reach out to individuals across the country through over 2.75 lakh direct consultations while also inviting inputs from citizens online.

Save the Children joins Global Action Week for Education Celebrations

Celebrating the Global Action Week for Education, the National Coalition for Education (NCE) organised a culmination event for this year's campaign that was undertaken from 24th April to 31st May, 2019, covering 15 States. Together with Save the Children, UNESCO, World Vision India, the event was held on 31st May. The major objectives of this year's campaign were to advocate with the policymakers for more inclusive policies and better implementation of the existing policies, to raise voice with the support of community, children, CSOs, teachers, and academicians for increasing the awareness regarding importance of inclusive education and to advocate for changing the existing systemic barriers to inclusive education.
