From Hopeless End to Endless Hope

“Till last year our family was so happy and satisfied with whatever we had,” says Reema with tears in her eyes. Reema is a 16-year-old girl who lives with her 11 years old brother Sushant, their mother, a homemaker, and their grandmother. They live in Kadipukur village under Mandir Bazar block of South 24 Paraganas in West Bengal.

Reema and her family never thought that destiny would be such that they would have to struggle for their survival. In 2020 when the COVID-19 Pandemic spread its presence everywhere, Reema’s family turned upside down. Reema’s father, late Mr Goutam, was the only earning member of the family, who earned a living by driving an auto-rickshaw. The family was all settled and doing well until late Mr Goutam tested positive for COVID-19. Unfortunately, the treatment could not fight the battle, and he lost his life to the deadly virus, leaving the family behind.

As Reema’s mother is a homemaker with no work experience, she’s facing tremendous difficulty in trying to support the family’s financial needs. Children’s education is at stake now as it is no more a priority for the family.
Bal Raksha Bharat is in constant touch with the family and is trying to support the necessary needs. Reema’s and Sushant are hopeful that very soon, the situation of the family will improve, and they will fulfil the dreams of their parents and have a sustainable life.
