In 2015, Save the Children reached 4.5 lac children through its programmes in the area of Health & Nutrition. Urban health work of saving Newborn lives Program of Save the Children is being showcased in its National Meet in, New Delhi. The programme, amongst its many initiatives focusses on saving new born lives and is currently active in Delhi, Pune and Bhubaneswar. Dr. Rajeshwar Rao, Joint Secratary of Urban Health at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is the Keynote speaker. The event marks an important discussion on the programme and how to make it even more effective in months to come.

Having begun in the year 2000, Saving Newborn Lives (SNL) is in its third phase (2013-17) of implementation today and has established itself as a leader in newborn health knowledge generation and as a provider of newborn health technical assistance in the country. Major efforts in India in recent years have included the development of the India Newborn Action Plan (INAP), SOIN (State of India’s Newborns) report, and national guidelines on various aspects of newborn care. The programme is working in collaboration with the Urban Health Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the National Health Missions at the state Governments of Maharashtra and Odisha and the Municipal Corporations of Pune and Bhubaneswar to improve planning and governance on existing service delivery mechanisms for maternal and newborn health in urban poor settings.
