New Delhi, May 18: “Save the children, every one of them” was Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit’s message on the wall.
At a dinner hosted at her residence on Monday night for the chief executives and Board members of child rights organization, Save the Children, the Chief Minister pledged her support to EVERY ONE, Save the Children’s five-year campaign to prevent the deaths of children under the age of five. India has committed to reducing child mortality by 2015 as spelt out in Millennium Development Goal 4.
Placing her thumbprint on a specially erected wall aimed at mobilizing messages of support for EVERY ONE, the Chief Minister joked that she wouldn’t normally put her thumbprint on a blank wall but was making an exception in this case considering it was a pledge of support to save the lives of children. She wrote a message as well: “Save our planet, Save the children – Every One of them.”
The Chairperson of Save the Children’s International Board, Charles Perrin, presented Mrs. Dixit a copy of the biography of Eglantyne Jebb, the founder of Save the Children.
Delhi’s Health Minister Kiran Walia, the Board Chair of Save the Children in India, Harpal Singh and Save the Children CEO in India, Thomas Chandy, placed their thumbprints on the wall.
