Amar Kaaj Korte Bhaalo Lagto Na (I did not like working)

I am from Bariapur, North 24 Paraganas (West Bengal).
My father left my family when I was 12 years old. My mother then asked me to quit studying because there was no money. But my brother continued his education. My mother loves him a lot.
I realized the difference between son and daughter.
At the age of 17, I do not have great memories of the time gone by.

In 2007, I came to Kolkata and started working as a domestic worker. I worked for 24 hours every day. After working so hard, I only earned Rs 700 per month.
Amaar kaaj korte bhaalo logte na (I did not like working).
One day, didi convinced my employer to send me to Save the Children’s Drop-in Center.
Here didi teaches me English, Math and other subjects. I also get vocational training.
Now I can read and write. I love to stitch. I am very happy. My life has changed now. I also help other girls who are child domestic workers.

Today, I am proud to be a girl !
