In our disaster risk reduction programme supported by ICICI Foundation and CSO

partners, we have supported 100 village level taskforces to be better prepared to naturaldisasters in their communities and to coordinate their local response. 1,876 members ofthese taskforces were trained in providing psychosocial support during an emergency in June, while 106 further members were trained on performing search and rescue, includingparticipating in a mock response drill.

 

The first round of mock response drills at villagelevel was also held this month in all 100 project villages. We have supported 1,381 flood vulnerable families with agricultural tools to improve their livelihoods options.

 

In ourresponse to the Nor’wester which struck in May, we have given 1,261 children education kits and constructed 127 temporary shelters for affected families. Nearly 3 lakhs hasbeen paid out to 285 families engaged in cash-for-work programmes we have set up.Children’s Group.

 

Since April 2008 we have been engaged in building Disaster-Resilient Communities in the flood-affected States of Bihar, Orissa and West Bengal. We have initiated a two year Child-Centered Disaster Risk Reduction (CCDRR) intervention in 160 villages with the support of ICICI Bank and CSO Partners.
