Assam Relief: Rapid Response

The current wave of floods in Assam has so far affected the lives of over 2 million people, leaving many people homeless without food and clean drinking water.

At least 100 people have been reported killed.

As in most emergency situations, children are the worst affected victims. They are in critical need of nutrition support and protection during this tumultuous time.

Moreover, The floods have heightened the risk of water-borne diseases in the area.

Our teams on ground have informed us that the existing water sources (hand-pumps and tube wells) have been submerged and contaminated with floodwater.

The stagnant water and the lack of mosquito nets have also raised the risk of malaria in the affected areas. Cases of viral fever and colds have been reported among children.

As part of our intervention, we are in the process of providing emergency relief material to the flood victims, including:

  • Supplementary nutrition to children
  • Hygiene Kits, including mosquito nets, buckets and mugs
  • Household utility kits
  • Tarpaulins
  • Purification of potable water
  • Recovery and restoration of hand pumps
  • Health camps

But, we cannot do this without your generous contribution. Please support our relief work and help us reach out to the affected children and their families.
