Fighting 'Killer Pneumonia' in Rajasthan

On World Pneumonia Day (November 12) Save the Children organized several events in Rajasthan to create awareness about Pneumonia that kills nearly 400,000 children in India every year.

The activities included “Fight against Pneumonia Run”, Media orientation programme, distribution of woollen caps and a month-long pneumonia awareness campaign across 70 villages of Rajasthan.

The "Fight against Pneumonia" Run was organised in Jaipur on November 12. Over 500 NCC cadets and Nursing Students participated in this event.

Woolen caps for newborns were distributed in 200 villages (13 districts).

Over 20 media persons participated in an orientation programme organised in Jaipur. Media Orientation sessions were also organised in Jaisalmer and Kishangarh.  

Moreover, a month long Pneumonia Awareness Campaign was launched in 70 villages of Kishangarh and Jaisalmer District during November 12 to December 11. Rallies, health camps, meeting with mother groups were organised as part of this campaign. 

Pneumonia is the biggest killer of children in the world today, even though preventing and treating it is simple and cost effective. It is time we change this.
